"Biosciences, Medicine and Engineering are merging in ways that were unimaginable just a few years ago. Biomedical Engineering weaves together the life sciences, engineering and medicine into a truly interdisciplinary department poised to advance both teaching and research in this highly creative and fast paced field.

Biomedical Engineering is a discipline of disciplines that sees no barriers or difference between biology, medicine and engineering. Our graduate students will be the future generation that carries the UF BME model throughout the world.

Currently, the department is expanding its research and hiring directions on: Bioimaging, Neuroengineering, and applications of microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) to micro- and nanosystems (for genomics, proteomics, and drug delivery analysis; molecular assembly; tissue engineering; biosensor development; and nanoscale imaging.).

These fields will enhance and complement current UF strengths in cell/tissue engineering, bioengineered stem cell research, biomaterials and biomechanics."

Dr. William L. Ditto, BME Professor and Chair
